Getting help with Linkedin is important today because gone are the days of simply writing in job experience details on an application form. Today, many businesses have gone digital and are also using other resources like Linkedin to evaluate job applicants.
Fortunately, not all Linkedin profiles are equal, and there is some skill involved with creating a profile that does get noticed. LinkedIn offers seven tips for creating a great profile that can help you land a job.
Help with Linkedin: Getting Found
Contractors can search Linkedin and Google for workers to fill their jobs. In fact, Linkedin says there were 5.7 billion professionally oriented Linkedin searches done in 2012, alone. Using keywords are vital for getting yourself found. Google’s Keyword Tool can help you see what words are indexing well in Linkedin and Google for your line of work. Be sure to include them in your profile.
Keep it Simple
Keep the name listed in your profile simple — for example, Joseph Lockhart and not “Joseph Lockhart Email: email@example.com, call xxx-xxx-xxxx.” Each section in Linkedin is only for its own specific information. Name just means name.
Include your photo because using a photo gets better results. Tip: use a good photo of yourself where you appear professional/appropriate looking for the job you want to fill.
Public Profile URL
Clean up your name URL by deleting the numbers after your name (for example, in https://linkedin.com/pub/joseph-lockheart3998576-hhfrigishot delete the last numbers.) Also use your Linkedin URL in your email signature and business cards.
Personalize Your Website Under Contact Info
Use the drop down menu and click on “other” to add all the information such as business name, website name, a call-to-action or website description.
You should get at least 10-15 recommendations and provide people with specific info to recommend like your skills, strengths and services so they can write a detailed recommendation for you.
There are three ways to categorize your skills for people to find you when searching by groups:
- Your industry and competitor’s groups
- Groups by geo – name of city and state chamber of commerce you belong to
- Personal type groups by profession — welders, electricians, plumbers, etc.
